BenefitsCheckUp — Where to Find It and What It Does

What BenefitsCheckUp is

BenefitsCheckUp® is a free, confidential online tool run by the National Council on Aging (NCOA), a national nonprofit organization. It helps older adults and people with disabilities find benefits programs they might be eligible for, depending on where they live.

Where to find it

The website address is:

BenefitsCheckUp.org

It is also available in Spanish at BuscaBeneficios.org.

How it works

  1. Step 1: You start by entering your ZIP code and choosing the kinds of help you are most interested in. Then you answer some questions. For some programs, more details are needed.
  2. Step 2: The tool builds a personalized report of programs you may be eligible for. You can view the report as a PDF or have it emailed.
  3. Step 3: The report tells you how to apply: you can apply online through the agency's own website, read more about the program, or call the agency using the contact information in the report.

Kinds of help it can point to

BenefitsCheckUp can point to kinds of help such as:

If you would rather talk to a person

Call the Benefits HelpLine at 1-800-794-6559, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

There is also a chat feature on the BenefitsCheckUp website, and local benefits enrollment specialists who can help in person.

This page is NOT the checker. This page collects nothing — there is nothing to type here. BenefitsCheckUp is a separate website run by NCOA. A report from any tool is a starting point, not a decision: only the agency that runs a program can decide whether you qualify.
